Today the “Washington Whispers” blog at U.S. News & World Report highlighted the $600K public art project proposed for the new Department of Defense complex at Mark Center. The Drudge Report picked up the link, as did numerous bloggers around the country. See also this AlexandriaNews.org piece on the finalists’ proposals for the artwork.
The proposals were on display at Ramsey Elementary School through today. If you didn’t get a chance to stop by, see here for PDF images.
***Addendum: NBC Washington picked up on this story yesterday; you can watch the video on NBC’s site—”$600K for BRAC Art Upsets Those Worried About Roads.”***

As both an Alexandria resident and a federal taxpayer this makes me sick. And not just the frog-rodeo fairy — the whole “public art” concept. Please don’t take my money to pay for what someone else — anyone else — deems “good” art.
